This SIG is for discussing partnerships between higher education and correctional facilities. Teachers, students, and researchers are all encouraged to join. This SIG also serves to promote collaborations between college/university student organizations and local jails/prisons.

Hello all,
This SIG is for all persons interested in the intersection between higher education and correctional education. This includes
(1) people who teach post-secondary courses in a correctional institution;
(2) people who study or work in higher education who have interests in incarcerated populations (as teachers, researchers, or social advocates);
(3) students of both higher education and correctional education;
(4) any other interested people (grad students, e.g.).
I am an adviser for a student organization at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. This organization, called the Collegiate Association for County Correctional Education, specifically serves county jails by renovating/refurbishing their libraries. In its first academic year, we were able to provide thousands of dollars worth of high-quality college textbooks to local county jails. This is the first college/university student organization in the US that is specifically focused on helping those in county jails.
Please, post a note telling the SIG who you are and what you would like to see this SIG accomplish during the 2009-2010 academic year.
