Construction trades struggle to recruit young people
A growing push for college education may be one reason for a shortage of skilled young construction workers -- carpenters, plumbers, stonemasons, electricians, welders and others -- who normally complete on-the-job apprenticeships instead of college courses. While such on-the-job training programs may pay up to $30 hourly and offer significant job security, relatively few young adults are signing up. Seattle Post-Intelligencer
