Children's Mental Health Awareness Day Promotes Thriving in the Community
May 7, 2009, is National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. The purpose of this observance is to promote positive youth development, resilience, recovery, and the enhancement of mental health services for children and youth with mental health needs and their families.
This year's theme "Thriving in the Community" focuses on how high-school youth who receive needed mental health services are more likely to have positive outcomes, such as better grades, and less likely to have negative outcomes, such as involvement with the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
